First time i ever played a pen and paper adventure, I was 10 years old and bored out of my mind :)
My dad made me a character, gave me some weird looking dice and I had to sit every other week for few hours with him and his friends playing D&D. Not much fun for ten year old :)
But, a few years after that, I started playing with my own group of friends and that was a lot of fun. I have played a lot of systems, Cthulhu, Warhammer 40, Warhammer Fantasy and a D20 based system (and a whole setting) my friends made, being most interesting to me.
And this one i probably my fav of all times:

I prefer pen and paper over any kind of video games because of the social component,. Being able to once a week sit down with my friends and have an epic adventure in another world, is priceless to me.
Do you play pen and paper and what do you prefer ?
I will not be forgotten This is my time to shine I've got the scars to prove it
Only the strong survive
I'm not afraid of dying Everyone has their time Life never favored weakness
Welcome to the pride

Oh! I used to love playing this!
I think the craze started in the 90's when every movie had a board game and P&P Adventure :)
It has that social component that lacks in the computer and even online games (voice chat is not the same as sitting and talking with actual people you can see and interact with, Gamers! ). I would love to play again if I can make some free time :)

I love to play P&P but I can't seem to find a good crew lately..
I was thinking on doing some online adventuring, via Skype or something...
I think that could work...

I preferred to play already written adventures with a good GM that doesn't burden the crew and the story with to many unnecessary details and rules. Just letting the story flow and steering the crew in the right direction...
This topic totally took me back, I cold play something right now :)

@LadySelene I play Pathfinder (a lot like D&D) and I can tell you the best way to play it online is by using roll20. It's an awesome website that serves as a battlemat, game map and a way to communicate all at once. You can video chat like on skype, you can keep digital versions of your sheets on there, you can roll dice on it. It has anything and everything you would need to have an online gaming session.

Ooooh yeah, roll20 is amazing!

We use it even though we don't play online but get together every week. It's so useful to be able to directly use the maps you get in adventure paths as your battlemat. Plus, if you dole out some cash (I think it's like 50$ for a year) you can get some incredible extra features. The main one being dynamic lighting... It basically lets you determine what the walls and obstacles are on your map, put a torch or other source of light on your character token and then shrouds the whole map in darkness so that while you are exploring a dungeon map, your character only sees what his torch iluminates... too see around a corner, you have to turn the corner, to see past a door you have to open the door, to see further down a dark hallway you need to get a stronger light or just make that perilous step forward ;)
In conclusion, It's awesome!

There is an online battlemat?!
That is an awesome news to me, now I don't have to see people that I play with! It adds to the mystery :D
Does it work for other systems or just Pathfinder ?
