It is system neutral (or system agnostic as they like to call it) which means it's not tied to any particular system. We just happen to use it for Pathfinder. It can even have a hex grid instead of the normal squares if you're playing something like GURPS or one of those mecha games.
Here's a video of how it looks like (you can see that dynamic lighting thing I mentioned around 0:30), but keep in mind that that's just scratching the surface. You can make it as simple or as complicated as you like... from just using it as a digital map (like my group does) to wholly transporting your entire game onto it (with character sheets, dice rolls, HP bars etc.)
I honestly don’t know. Never tried using it that way.
I think there is a rudimentary community on there (in the sense that you can search for other registered users and their campaigns) but don’t take my word for it.

I'm the same as Ghaz, always played with friends at home, so I can't tell you for sure, but depending on what system you would play you should check out the forums on the official site of whatever game you choose. Paizo's (makers of Pathfinder) forum, for example, is very active and I'm sure they have a topic or two that deals with people looking for a group.

@Rathamon That is a great idea!
And you and Gaz should start finding people online or something. Selene and Scarlett played only with a local crew, and look what happened to them
