TOPIC: Paper art!

Paper art! 3 years 7 months ago #975

I recently started making some small household items out of paper-mash, nothing big, just some jewelry holders, coasters and things of that nature. I found that they are sturdy, fairly easy to make and when lacquered, almost water-resistant.
I like the fact that I can make any shape or size and paint the item to mach my home the best possible way, customization possibilities are endless.
It just takes so much time to dry... And I would love if there is a trick to make them smooth.
Any advice, tip or trick on paper-mash subject is welcome :D

I make a lot of things out of paper-mash, especially for cosplay costumes and sometimes jewelry :D
It is so much fun!
To get the item to dry faster, put it in the oven until dried, that is the best advice I ever got on the subject. Put some baking paper in the oven, place the item on it and set your temp on about 100C.
And for smoothing, I use construction smoothing paste, works well with paper-mash and you can also imprint some designs into it.
What kind of paper do you use?
I will not be forgotten This is my time to shine I've got the scars to prove it
Only the strong survive
I'm not afraid of dying Everyone has their time Life never favored weakness
Welcome to the pride

What is paper-mash?
It sounds so interesting! And now I want to try it, how do you do it !?

What else can you make from it? Just jewelry and something small or is there anything else? Is it hard? What tools and stuff do I need, can I see some of your work?

Paper-mash is a cool and simple way to make a lot of stuff, from decoration to costumes :)
all you need is wallpaper glue and different kinds of paper :)
When I was a kid, we made masks out of balloon, newspaper and wallpaper glue, that was so much fun :)

This is a great video but Americans do it the hard way :D
All you need is to mix wallpaper glue with some water, dry the shape you want in the oven, paint it, lacquer it and you are done :D

In my house, wife is conjuring something called decoupage  she took my old books few weeks ago.

The bright side of it is that it takes all of hers atention so Im basically free. She conviced me to supply her with more material from some heavy duty stores.
